A true retreat
this sanctuary: to be
and then show the chance of palette
in a momentum of one untrained life,
mine as a gift to you,
my inheritors, my friends,
my able safe.

And not an exclusionary vault,
but an open field of acquaintanceship and sharing,
come as pilgrims to the unknown:
anxious yet sure that the past,
foundation and brilliant, will continue
as a road into sunset
or a river running real as directed by god
to the completion of tomorrow and belief
in the sanctuary of painting.
